So the sis and I got to spoil ourselves at Izakaya. And boy oh boy did we get spoiled!
We tried all kinds of lovely dishes, which in line with the izakaya tradition were mostly small bites. You see, an Izakaya is actually a Japanese bar-like establishment. Although the focus is on the drinks they serve delicious little bites and nibbles to accompany them. As we were there for lunch we didn’t delve into any of the amazing sounding cocktails. But I’ll definitely go back to try that shisomomo, it sounded amazing.
Anywhose, on to the food. We tried many different things and loved everything. But my favorites most certainly are the pan fried scallops with a yuzu truffle dressing and the crispy rice with spicy tuna tartar. OMG 100% mouthgasm!
Two other dishes that certainly caught my attention were the unagi and honeycomb roll and the jalapeno octopus. Now I’m not a big fan of fusion but the crispy sweetness of the golden “honeycomb” went really well with the grilled eel. And the tender octupus with the soft avocado and little drops of spiciness were a really interesting combo.
Being a total sugar-addict, I can’t end a meal without a little “fix” of sweet. So I had the cappucino brullee that got me drunk of the full flavor of Suntory whisky.
I’m not gonna lie, Izakaya is also deliciously pricey. That check was… ouch. But every now and then you should reward yourself with something special. Do make sure you reserve beforehand, it’s sure to be packed on the weekends.
